Travel Gear
...that I personally recommend
Through all my decades of travel experience I've learned to keep my money in several locations. I have one dummy wallet with just enough cash that I will need for the day and maybe one card. Then I use a money clip like this and clip it on the inside of my clothing against my body. I never take it out in public. This way if I am ever separated from my bag I have backup funds. I can easily say that my bag is my most important piece of gear. I searched for the right bag for years when I stumbled upon the CarryPro Hobo 40 online. I have taken this 40L bag all around the world and it is still like new. It is designed so well - with hidden pockets, a whole organization pouch, laptop sleeve, lots of compartments and it even comes with a rain cover. Its clear this bag was designed by a backpacker. I just can't say enough good things about this bag: CarryPro HOBO 40 I also use the CarryPro Hobo 25 if I want to travel light. This is also an awesome bag. CarryPro HOBO 25
This is the best invention EVER and I don't leave home without it. It allows women to pee safely and discreetly. No need to drop your pants and squat. You can pee standing up. It is the best solution for unhygienic bathrooms and allows for a quick and discrete stop while trekking. I personally recommend a hard funnel, like this, as opposed to the soft silicone funnels. Even though the soft ones are more flexible when packing, this flexibility also allows for leakage when in use. I have used this exact brand and am happy with it. This type of toiletry bag is a gamechanger. I love being able to hang my bag and have all my things in one location. Whether, staying in a resort, a hostel or even camping - I always bring my bag with me. I have had the same bag for decades so I couldn't find it online but this is the idea. I like the look of this one because it has lots of compartments and seems to be fairly compact. Avoid getting one that is too big. Here is the link if you want a closer look: Toiletry Bag
There are so many times while travelling that a lock comes in handy. Some public lockers in train or bus stations can be used with your own lock, sometimes you want to lock the 2 zippers of your bag together, or maybe 2 friends want to lock their bags together so that it is more of a hassle for potential thieves to manage discretely. I ALWAYS use combination locks rather than locks with a key. I prefer the reassurance of never having to worry about losing my keys. I also stick to locks with a flexible cable rather than a solid metal U hook. The cable can get into small holes like zippers etc. Also try get TSA approved locks like this one: Cable Lock
These cream deodorants are usually more lightweight and compact than traditional deodorants. I sometimes transfer some to an even smaller container for short trips. I prefer to use this one by Plum while travelling. It smells lovely, like Pina Colada and more importantly it is a reliable deodorant. They have other fragrances too. You can get it here: Plum Deo
This one is a bit pricy but well worth it for camping/trekking trips. I use waterproofing spray on my shoes/hiking books, rain gear and even my backpack. If you want to make this last then only do your shoes. It is pretty miserable having soggy feet for a week. Do at least 2 coats letting them dry for 12 hours between coats. If you are in very wet conditions or your shoes are constantly in rough terrain you will need to redo this for each trip. For regular hiking you reapply every couple of months: Waterproofing Spray
